VILLA BETULA

the dark hues of maren ingeborg gråblomst

FRESH FROM THE BATHROOM

08/03/2018

Hi! It’s time to show you some of what I’m up to these days – photographing the house in a different way than usual – brighter, lighter and with less shadows than you usually see here on the blog. The reason: just started yesterday to take photos for the marketing of the house for the real estate market. We have a real estate agent with us, but I insisted to take the photos myself, so I’m challenging both myself and the agent, ha ha, poor man. Hope he will be satisfied (fingers crossed).

Maybe some of you are even planning on seeing the house when it’s out for sale? Maybe one of my readers are going to end up living here? That would have been quite awesome! It will be out on the market late April, so keep your eyes peeled! I’m going to show you all my “marketing shots”  during March, and hopefully get done before April start since I’m off for nine days at that time. When I get back there will be outdoor photos (spring is here then, right!?!), and before I even get to think, this will be sold!

Alright, alright, who wouldn’t miss this bathroom… I mean, it’s really big (you can even place a sofa in here!), has an old bathtub, a beautiful floor, and stars in the ceiling, big shower, built in shelves with room for everything you need (and even more), old exposed beams, floor heating and tons of natural light. This is for sure one of the rooms I will miss the most!

If you are interested is this property, don’t hesitate to contact our very nice and pro real estate agent. He will keep in touch with you and make sure you get to know it all 😉

Except from lots to do with property and administration which never seems to end, I want to tell you I’m doing quite fine (though I still cry almost every day). It could have been worse, and we’re both still living here and we manage it very well together at this point.

And something totally different: some of you have commented on the blog, or messaged me on Instagram, about the curtains in my coming apartment, if I will keep them. I’ve said no, they smell so so bad, and there’s no way they can be nice again. But today I went to the apartment and took them all down, and I’m washing them as I write! Thanks for pushing the curtains into my life, and I’ll try to give them new life! Hope they will shine (and smell less tobacco and some kind of perfume) again!

Wow! Your bathroom it’s stunning!! I have no doubt your home will sell quickly…it’s so lovely. I think your agent should be exceptionally pleased that you are doing the photographs for the listing…..you know it intimately and will be able to show it how it really lives, the light, the feel, the coziness….
I was a Realtor for many years and it was all about the words and the photos that brought the right people to see a home.
You’re doing good…I wish you all well. XO

Hi Sarah! Great words from you (which has worked as a realtor!), thanks <3 I think this house is so special that you "need to know it" to show it the best possible way, and I know every angle and have photographed a lot in this environment. I need to start to photograph one of the other rooms soon, but haven't decided which one.... Have a nice day, Sarah!

Hi, nothing wrong with your photos, they have a certain spirit.
BUT, as a potential buyer for a house this would not inspie or motivate to look further…it is too dark and you cannot see anything right and the buyer is wondering, if there are any defeciencies the seller wants to hide. Lighter, ‘normal’ real estate pics would be better to promote the selling. And most people want bright homes, this can also makes it difficult to attract buyers.

Hi! I have brightened them a lot, and they look pretty much like other photos that promotes selling. If you think they look very dark, maybe you have turned your screen brightness down a lot? They are not my “usual style”, but I can’t turn a black + petrol room look white, if you get what I mean 😉 And nothing will go out on the market without our agents approval, so when he think it’s good – it’s good! This house will attract buyers that think a little out of the box, and we have no intentions to try and cover “everyones taste/ the crowd”. We’re not hiding any deficiencies with the photos, and the rules in Norway are v e r y strict, and you have endlesss pages written about the whole house from a person who works only with examine buildings for sale (don’t know the english name for it). Nothing can be hidden, and that’s great for all parts involved in selling/ buying.

Great bathroom! These photos are less artsy and moody but the house still looks like a dream to me. I’m a little surprised that your realtor doesn’t demand that you paint it all white. That’s what would happen here in USA. Americans are sickly obsessed with white walls. OK, beige is as dark as it gets. At least here in Arizona. From what I see online interior decor tends to get a little more adventurous as you move back East. Of course, being not American, I painted my house all kinds of juicy warm colors (another American interior decorating faux pas – different colors in different rooms). It’s not as dark as yours, a house has to have a lot of natural light to pull off really dark walls and ours doesn’t. But by local standards it’s scandalous. 🙂 And I know that if we ever decide to sell our house we’ll have to repaint it some God-awful beige color “to appeal to potential buyers”. I really don’t understand that… But tastes differ. I would pounce on your house like a cat on a mouse. Too bad I don’t live in your area. I think you’ll be able to find a buyer who falls in love with those dark walls. Kudoz to your realtor for letting you put the house on the market as is and for letting you photograph it. Your photos are great, even when you tone the mood down for real estate purposes. 🙂

Hi Olga! I think people should just see a potential in a house – that’s what it’s all about. If someone wants to paint this house light, they can, but what a shame if I “ruined” our house like that before a sale. No realtor can “demand” anyone to do anything (at least not in Norway), you just have to find the one that’s best for your property 😉

Well, not really “demand” but strongly recommend. It would be a choice between sitting on the property for a few years and selling it for half the price or stripping the house of all personality. It’s even recommended to remove all personal items (like family pictures) for the open house day, to make it easier for potential buyers to picture themselves living in the house. To me that sounds like complete nonsense. But I understand it’s all mind tricks to make a sale. Good to know it’s not like that in Norway. It would be a shame to see your stunning interior decorating job undone. 🙂

I will declutter a little, though 😉 😉 But there’s a problem where to put things you know, because I won’t have the apartment before this will be for sale soooo…. lots to find out and spend my time on! I’m getting tired of all this administration, but everyday I remind myself that I truly believe the apartment will be a good place, and I picture myself on some holiday in a city with sun and swimming pool (and way too much ice-cream)with my daughter. It helps! 😉
