LisaLove will be the first woman hanging on my wall. Her artwork touch me big time and has done for a long time. They’re almost “too me” in a way, that’s might why I don’t have one of her prints already. Because the recognition of myself in her self-portraits hits me too hard. But this one is for me. And I can’t believe she gave it to me for free, like a Christmas present. Because I was at the right place at the right time. I think it was meant to be. Thanks a lot Lisa.
Why I don’t have women on my wall already, you wonder? This can easily be misunderstood, interpreted and provoke, but I think there’s a big difference between equality and freedom, and by the fact there’s lots of women have to show off everything for “equality” and showing what “freedom” is. The way many women represents themselves is really sad. And for me it has nothing to do with showing art, strength or bravery. These days you’re pretty brave if you keep your clothes on. I’m sick and tired of commercials and magazines and have been for years and years. But LisaLove pulls it off great, even when she does not have clothes on. She has a message. A very strong one, and it works. Even for me.
Enough about that, I always seem to have something like that to say. Guess I’m easily provoked myself. More about the frame! Which is way too big (double the size you see in the photo), but except from that it’s perfect, don’t you think? Only the best golden vintage frame can fit this print, no doubt about that. So I will search and search for the right one… Only the best is good enough…
And this is where I’ve spent most of my day, trying to catch the light to photograph LisaLove and some of my favourite books which I will represent you in a very messy and charming way a little later.
And maybe Lisa in an old golden frame will fit in here by the lion head, over the blue painting? What do you think?
You know recently I had the same dilemma – I had a really unique antique post card that I wanted to frame. The problem is – no frame would fit. I started thinking outside the box. I found an 8″ x 10″ frame that I liked (which is a pretty standard frame size here in USA and which is considerably bigger than my card). The frame came with a piece of glass to place the photo under and with a piece of cardboard to prop the photo from behind. What I did is I replaced the cardboard with another piece of glass of the same size, taken from another frame I didn’t need. I placed my card between the 2 pieces of glass, in the center, and inserted them into the frame, just like I would have done with the cardboard. The result is – my post card looks suspended in the air, in the center of a much bigger frame and you can see the wall through the glass that holds the card. Maybe you could use that trick with your print? I hope I explained it clearly. The print is gorgeous by the way. The frame certainly looks perfect for it.
Great tips, you absolutely made it clear! Thanks 😉
